I was sitting at the crowded restaurant, looking for my daughter Vanessa and my husband Michael. My stomach grumbled as the waitress tortured me once again with a plate of pineapple chicken wings that she served to the people across from me. They’ll be here any minute, I reassured my whining tummy. Just then, I see a little girl who matched my daughters height but her back was facing me. She was wearing a bright pink shirt with big multi-colored polka dots, a kelly green zebra print skirt and black cowgirl boots. Funny, I thought. Vanessa owns all of those items the girl is wearing, but Michael would not put such a disastrous outfit together… would he? I look to her right and my jaw drops. Michael is standing next to her. They take notice of me and head my direction.A very sullen Vanessa sits next to me and places a kiss on my forehead. “Sorry we’re late, little Ms. Fashionista didn’t want to leave the house.” says Michael. I want to yell out: I don’t blame her! when our waitress,Cindy, comes over to our table. As she takes our order she can’t help but to stare at my daughters outfit. She complimented Vanessa on her “bright and cheery shirt.” Cindy heads off to put in the order and Vanessa covers her face with her little manicured hands and whispers, “I told daddy that YOU wouldn’t let me go out looking like this!” I reassured her that this would not happen again. I made a mental note to call my friend Suzy because she told me about a product that sounded like the perfect solution for Vanessa.

When Vanessa was almost finished with her meal, Cindy appears with a strawberry sundae with lots of sprinkles, on the house. Vanessa’s face brightens with a beautiful smile as she thanks her new BFF. Cindy and I shared a look that lead to my oblivious husband. He was in his own world surrounded by mountains of mashed potatoes and gravy. We both sighed . She understood what had happened. When we finished our dinner, Michael asks if we wanted to rent a movie. “No thanks!” Vanessa and I reply in unison. We clearly do not want to go anywhere but our home to change out of that circus ensemble.

As soon as we got home, I called Suzy. I told her about our evening out and she laughed so hard, the words, “Girls looking cute,” are barley recognizable. Thank you Suzy for being the listening type. Once she has her composure back, she tells me that she too was tired of her young daughter, Katie, being dressed with the “help” of her father. “They are life sized mannequins. They teach her be independent and responsible, but she’ll never know that because she’s too busy having fun dressing up her doll. Katie makes sure to dress her up before she goes to bed. When she wakes up, there’s no panicking to look for a certain top or matching shoes..it’s all there ready for a new day.” Wow! I am impressed and ask how sturdy these dolls are, being that Vanessa will change the outfits throughout the day. ” No need to worry! They are made of wood! And not only that, they have different dolls to choose from and two heights are available as well!” I thank Suzy and make my way to the computer room where I place an order for Vanessa’s very own outfit assistant.

In two weeks, my daughter will be heading back to pre-school. I know my husband isn’t quite excited about this because it means he has to help her pick out outfits. Lucky for them, she will be using a personal assistant to help pick out clothes this fall.
